Diagnosing Two Clusters to Contribute to the Sophistication of Georgian Businesses

We are currently conducting a diagnostic study of two clusters - marine fishing and processing, and the preservation of fruits and vegetables - in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region.

With this in mind, PMC Research will describe both the history and the current reality for these clusters, analyze business operations within them, develop a cluster map, and then elaborate short-term objectives as well as a long-term vision for the development of these clusters.

Ultimately, this project seeks to boost entrepreneurship and business sophistication by strengthening the capacities of government and local entities to develop and operate clusters.

The study is part of the “EU Innovative Action for Private Sector Competitiveness in Georgia (EU IPSC)” program, which is a joint initiative of the European Union and the following four UN agencies: the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO); and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

“Development and promotion of clusters in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti will have beneficial effect on private sector enhancement in the region, as it will boost productivity and advance innovation. Our project will significantly support the region to govern its economic development,” said Sopho Basilidze, Researcher at PMC Research.
