On September 15-16, PMC RC participated in the 6th annual CAREC Think Tank Development Forum (CTTDF), organized under the theme “Recalibrating Growth Dynamics for Inclusive and Sustainable Economies” in Baku, Azerbaijan.
This year, the main focus of the session was on growth, inclusivity, and sustainability in the CAREC region. Leading presentations by representatives of well-known institutions and renowned experts on each topic were complemented by country case-studies by CAREC think tank representatives.
Mr. Giorgi Khishtovani, Director at PMC RC, participated as a speaker in the session entitled “Geopolitical Uncertainties, COVID-19, and the Impact on Growth and Inclusivity,” presenting a case study of Georgia and outlining how the geopolitical uncertainties and the pandemic-induced economic slowdown impacted Georgia. The session participants also presented case-studies of Mongolia and Pakistan, followed by an open discussion.
“Global uncertainty is brought on by many factors, which are also relevant for Georgia, such as supply chain disruptions arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, soaring food and energy prices, record-high rates of inflation, Russia’s war in Ukraine, and increased geopolitical tensions in the region. We aimed to review the recent trends and developments of the Georgian economy amid those uncertainties by highlighting some of the key indicators in the Georgian economy such as inflation, economic growth, and employment, as well as by overviewing trends with regard to exports , “ said Giorgi Khishtovani, Director at PMC RC.
The CTTDF takes place every year under the auspices of the CAREC Think Tank Network (CTTN). The Forum brings together leading practitioners from think tanks, multilateral development partners, governments, and the private sector from the CAREC region to brainstorm regional challenges and provide diverse perspectives and innovative solutions to address these challenges through dialogue, experience-sharing, and knowledge collaboration.
