Evaluating Progress of Penitentiary and Probation Reforms

We recently started working on a European Commission project focused on monitoring and assessing the implementation of the Strategy and 2019-2020 action Plan for the Development of Penitentiary and Crime Prevention Systems in Georgia.

The aim of the project is to assess the extent to which progress has been made with respect to the indicators defined in the action plan, to identify achievements as well as bottlenecks in the process, and to develop relevant recommendations accordingly.

“Civil society can play an important role in the reformation of the penitentiary system in Georgia, providing independent monitoring as well as supportive mechanisms, aiding successful implementation of reforms. This project is another initiative aiming to support the Special Penitentiary Service in the implementation of the strategy and action plan for the Development of Penitentiary and Crime Prevention Systems,” noted Giorgi Khishtovani, Director of PMC Research Center.

Based on analyses, PMC Research will assess the progress made and identify challenges encountered in the process. Moreover, it will develop recommendations to support the Special Penitentiary Service in the pursuit of strategic goals.
